Unveiling a new design
Posted by  FirstPhera Team  on  Saturday, May 10, 2008

Over the next few days, we'll be unveiling a new look of our site. The current look has been around for 9 months now, and it feels like the right time to re-energize our pages and implement a few things we have learn't along the way.

When we first launched our home page, we had received several compliments for launching a wedding website with a page that decidedly looked like a wedding site. We have never really cared about Web 2.0, rounded corners, color palletes as such, and we still do not care. The redesign is our effort to bridge the gap between reality and the assumptions we made 1 year back.

Ex. When we were first designing our home page, we had made the following assumptions -

- A typical user of our product will be an Indian bride. She will be familiar with using a computer and internet and is really excited about her wedding.
- She knows what a wedding website is about and is really looking forth to sharing her wedding plans through her wedsite.
- She really values the idea of storing all her wedding memories in a place where she can return later.

Consequently, we created a home page with a bride, golden color pallette and extremely little info on what a wedding website is.

Now, having being in the market for 6 months and served thousands of users, here's what the reality is -

- A typical user is as likely to be a groom as a male.
- NRIs and even non-indians are a very real target market and often times more lucrative than domestic Indian
- Couples in India do not understand what a wedding website, and it is really hard to explain what the value is (ex. try explaining your parents what orkut does )

As a result, we decided to go with colors that are as Indian as Western, as feminine as masculine. You will see a lot more content around benefits of creating a wedding website as well.

New Home Page. Coming Soon! Stay tuned...

Cheers!
